About MSME

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector plays a crucial role in India’s economy.   • Medium Enterprise: Investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ₹50 crore, and turnover does not exceed ₹250 crore.

MSME Registration Overview

The government has established a streamlined system for MSME registration, ensuring an easy and efficient process for businesses. Under this system, an enterprise will be referred to as “Udyam,” and the registration process will be called Udyam Registration.

Once the registration process is completed, the enterprise will be assigned a permanent registration number. An official Udyam Registration Certificate will be issued online, which will feature a dynamic QR Code. This QR code allows easy access to the enterprise’s details and webpage on the official portal.

A key advantage of Udyam Registration is that it requires no renewal—once registered, the enterprise’s status is permanent. Additionally, the entire registration process is free of charge, with no fees or costs to be paid to anyone.

Guidelines for MSME Registration

  • Free and Paperless: MSME registration is free and completely paperless, based on self-declaration.
  • No Document Upload Required: No documents or proof are needed for registration, just the Aadhaar number.
  • Aadhaar Number Requirements:
  1. Proprietorship: Aadhaar of the proprietor.
  2. Partnership: Aadhaar of the managing partner.
  3. HUF: Aadhaar of the karta.
  4. Company/LLP/Trust: Aadhaar, GSTIN, and PAN of the authorized signatory.
  • Atomatic Data Fetching: Investment and  details will be fetched automatically from government databases using PAN and GST.
  • Self-Declaration for Missing Data: If PAturnoverN was not available in previous years, missing data can be updated based on self-declaration.
  • Mandatory PAN and GSTIN: PAN and GSTIN are required for Udyam Registration from 01.04.2021.
  • Re-registration Required: Enterprises with EM-II or UAM registration must re-register under Udyam.
  • One Registration per Enterprise: Only one Udyam Registration is allowed per enterprise, but multiple activities (manufacturing/services/both) can be included.

Benefits Of MSME Registration

Udyam Registration or MSME Registration is a certificate that is provided to micro, small, and medium-sized businesses in India under the MSME Act, 2006. Udyam registration in India was earlier known as Udyog Aadhar.

An enterprise shall be classified as a micro, small or medium enterprise on the basis of the following criteria, namely:
a micro enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed one crore rupees and turnover does not exceed five crore rupees
a small enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and turnover does not exceed fifty crore rupees
a medium enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed fifty crore rupees and turnover does not exceed two hundred and fifty crore rupees

How to Register a New MSME Enterprise

1. Aadhaar Number: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number as per the UIDAI record.

2. Name of Entrepreneur: Enter your name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card. Mismatched names will prevent further registration.

3. Aadhaar Verification: Click “Validate Aadhaar” to receive an OTP on the Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter the OTP to complete the verification.

4. PAN Verification: Fill in the type of organization and PAN. The system will verify the PAN automatically. If already registered with Udyam, a message will appear.

5. Udyam Registration Details:

  • Fill in contact details (mobile and email).
  • Specify social categorization, gender, and if special needs apply.
  • Provide the enterprise name, plant location, and official address.
  • Include previous registration number (UAM/EM-II) and enterprise status (incorporation/commencement date).
  • Add bank details (bank name, IFSC, account number).

6. Business Details:

  • Select major activity (manufacturing or service).
  • Choose National Industry Classification (NIC) codes for your activities (multiple codes allowed).
  • Provide the number of employees, investment in plant/equipment, and turnover.

7. DIC Location: Choose the relevant District Industries Centre (DIC) location based on the enterprise’s address. The system will auto-select the DIC if there’s only one in the district.

8. Submit and Receive OTP: Finalize the registration and submit for OTP verification.

9. Completion: After successful registration, a “Thank You” message with a Reference Number will appear. This number will be active for printing after updating income tax and GSTN export data (if applicable).
